Reading outlook pst files

I want to be able to read outlook pst files using vista compatible software.

I don’t want a copy of outlook (I do not use the calendar, to do list,
journal, calendar etc at home. All this functionality is useless to me at
home. I use outlook at work, and NOT at home).

I have read the advice abut downloading a trial version of outlook for vista
and transferring the messages, or transferring from outlook to outlook to
outlook express on the XP machine at work, and then transferring to removable
media to the vista machine at home. However this is something I may have to
do regularly, and it fills me with dread. I do not want to import all the
(tens of thousands of) messages into windows mail. I want to review the pst
archive that is relevant to what I need.

SO, what other email programs are available that can read outlook pst files
and handle email.

I have read that windows mail may be replaced with windows live mail. Would
this provide me with an email program that meets my requirements, or is there
some other freeware that I can use.

In order to read the PST file or import from it you will have to install
Outlook.
