reading mode 2003 possible to read with 3/4 screen

I really liked in 2003 the feature of having a reading mode that
wasn't full screen. I'm a student and what I'd like to do is open
reading mode to a window that is 1/2 the size of the screen and then
use the other half to put up a ppt slide presentation so I can see
the two side by side. There isn't an option to do that anymore--I can
put up web mode but there isn't formatting. Is there a way to change
it?

I'd use print preview (Office button | Print | ...) for that.
