reading documents in Word

Hello. Can anyone tell me why, when I try to open a Jpeg picture stored in
My Documents with Word, it turns up as print only in Word in a very strange
language indeed. I try all the options I can see offered but it only changes
it to even more strange languages. Obviously I've missed something, but what?

Hi Nennie,

To put a picture into a Word document, open a new document. Then go
to the [Insert] > [Pictures] > [From File].
