reading an email with attachments is very slow...

I am using Outlook 2002 and we have an Exchange 2000 server. I have not
changed my outlook configuration but for some reason any time I happen to
click onto an email that has an attachment of any size (doesn;t matter at
all if the atachment is 1kb or 10mb) as soon as I click on the email, my
Outlook session freezes for about 30 seconds to 1 minute or so before the
email is
displayed. I can do anything else on my computer no probs.

I also checked other users thinking it may be an Exchange problem and they
do not have this problem at all. My
network connection is functioning properly. If I turn OFF the preview pane
it is fine - turning it back on casues the issue. So reading the email seems
to be the problem.

I'd like to NOT have to try an uninstall and reinstall of Outlook because my
client is configured just the way I like it.

Any ideas what I could try? It seems like it is having problems locating or
reading an attachment file from the temp directory possible - whereever that
may be???

Has anyone seen this issue before and if so what did you do to fix it?

Thanks, Brad

Have you completely cleaned up your system ?
Deleted all temp file, cleared the temp folders, deleted .dmp and ~* files.
Defragged the HDD ( several Passes )

How much free space do you have on your system ? (
I'd suggest a minimum of 20% per partition. )

Have you cleaned up All apps and applets running in the background ?
What Add-ons are running in Outlook ? Try deleting them ?

What's you AV ? Does it scan attachments locally or at the server ?
How fast is it in Scanning Attachments ?
