When I insert a CD or plug in a Flash memory stick, that window pops up
with a torch looking for something and then another window pops up offering
options what I can do with this CD/memory stick which takes time.
How shall I stop this?

Turn off autoplay. Start | Help and Support | Search on autoplay.

Thank you. But search for autoplay in Help and Support returned 0 result

"Rock"

Hmm.. ok, download TweakUI, one of the MS powertoys, from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Run it, go to My Computer, Autoplay, Drives and uncheck the drives you don't
want it to run on.

Another way is to open My computer , right click the drive | Properties |
Autoplay tab. You can select type of CD, then Select an action , take no
action. Ok out.

Insert the device. Double-click "My Computer". Right-click the device
icon and select "AutoPlay" from the menu. Select the action you want
from the list (e.g., Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer)
and check the "Always do the selected action" checkbox. Click OK.
