Read Sector Failure - error message & fails to boot after crash -

Hi

My laptop will not boot - either normally or in Safe Mode or using Last
Known Good Configuration - following a crash.

1st error message: Read Sector Failure, result = 1, drive = 128, sectors
121367 to 121375

2nd message: CHKDSK bit set, volume may be unstable - Restart NT

Any suggestions welcome. I have access to a CD burner but would have to buy
a floppy drive - laptop came without.

Could I boot from CD, then run some sort of disk repair?

Thanks & regards

Yes

Boot off the CD to the Recovery Console

Then run:

chkdsk /p

Hi Darren - this is a co. pc - all I get is two "Toshiba" recovery cd's -
will chkdsk /p run from either of these?

Also I did a quick search on "Read Sector Failure" - it may be related to
Norton Anti Virus - they suggest "Ghost" then a couple of switches. As I
can't seem to SEE the hard drive, I don't know if this is possible.

Thanks for the suggestion - regards.

Laptop now back up & running, I borrowed an XP cd & managed to run chkdsk /p
as recommended then chkdsk /r which takes forever but the result is well
worth it.
Thanks very much & regards.
