Read receipts every day for the same emails

Hi,

I get every day on the same time two read receipts for two emails I sent to
another user some weeks ago. The recipient of my emails obviously does
nothing at this time every day, but the receipts are generated. Anybody has
had something like this before? Both we work with Outlook 2000 and mailboxes
on the same Exchange 5.5 server.

Thanks
Panos

Outbound read receipt request e-mails are hidden items (in the root
level of your message store). Since they are hidden and since Microsoft
decided not to bother on providing maintenance options to handle hidden
items, you need to use something like OutlookSpy to get inside your
message store to delete the hidden item.

See http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/delete_rr.htm.

Or is the problem that you are RECEIVING the read receipt response
rather than you sending them out? If so, you'll have to fix the problem
at the sender's end. Have you contacted your Exchange admin yet? In an
Exchange organization, I don't know if Outlook still sends out its own
special-encoded read receipt request e-mail or if it has Exchange do
that for you. There are Exchange newsgroups where you could ask.

Thank you very much for your answer! I have downloaded the Outlookspy and
tried to delete or modify the flag to send a read receipt, but it was not
possible. This is obviously a problem with some more users, who use offline
folders. Some of them "send" a read receipt for a specific message every time
they start Outlook! I could find nothing in the KB or in the newsgroups about
this problem...

Did you actually see any [hidden] items (i.e., read receipt request
messages)? Hmm, the article made it sound like you were supposed to
delete them, not change some flag.

Hi,

I tried to find the read receipt request and delete it, but it did not
function. Then I opened the message itshelf and tried to modify the flag for
the read receipt from "true" to "false" but it did not work, too. Another
user having the same problem tries to delete the message generating the
receipt, but he gets an error and is not able to delete it. The specific
error message is documented in KB283175, but no working solution is proposed.
In my company there are about five users having this problem...
