I need to know whether the person I have emailed has actually read it.
How does "read receipt" work with Windows Mail?
Many thanks

In Mail>tools>options>receipts>check - read receipts...
Should do it. You get no return until the recipient actually opens the mail
(body). You don't know if he reads any attachment or if it arrived.

Thanks for your help Bob. Can I only set it up to read receipt every email I
send, or can I opt for read receipt on certain emails? I would prefer it if I
could only have read receipt when I email one particular person.
Many thanks

Also, the recipient has the option of telling their email program to
ignore requests for receipts.

If you only want to do it with certain mail you have to do it while
composing the mail.

Many, many people have set their mail programs not to answer requests for a
read receipt.

As is fitting. What (or when) one does something in the privacy of one's home --
should remain private.

Do also bear in mind that if you receive a read receipt from a reader of
your e-mail that this is no confirmation that the data you have send has
actually reached the cerebral cortex of the reader!
