We have an executive that wants me to back up his pst to a CD and he wants to
be able to view the pst from the CD. I have tried changing the pst from an
Office data file File type to an Outlook data file File type and then backing
it off to a CD. When I try to read the pst, it comes up as some kind of
garbage. I had previously backed off a pst for another person and am able to
read individual mail messages, but I don't remember how I did it. This is
Office/Outlook 2000 running on W2K.
How can I get the pst backed off to CD and be able to read it???
Thanks.

You're not going to be able open the PST while it's on a CD since PSTs need
to be writeable to even be opened for viewing.

You can't do this as pst-files need to be read/write or Outlook won't be
able to read it. I usually make chm-files out of pst-files when they need to
be stored on CD. The additional benefit of this is that they are fully
indexed and easy to be searched.

You'll need the following add-in in order to create chm-files of Exchange
mailboxes/pst-files'

Can't be done.

This didn't work for the pst - it wouldn't copy. I copied the Inbox back to
Outlook and was able to archive it to a work folder and back it off to CD.
Reading it is not as clean as Outlook, but it does work!

Thanks
