I'm trying to change the Normal template, so that I can use a different
font/size/colour on my emails.
Help shows me where to find Normal.dot, but I can only open a read-only
version.
I have administrator status on my own machine, so anyone got any ideas how I
can fix this?

Hi Graham

I've been through this article, but can't see where it deals with my
Normal.dot being read-only issue. Could you explain, please?

Thanks

Roger

If normal.dot's lock file has not been deleted when Word is closed, any
further attempt to edit it will be prevented by the orphan lock file. Before
you proceed any further ensure that you have no temporary files.

Thanks for explaining.

I've been through the process and deleted all the temp files and searched
for ~$normal.dot which doesn't appear. I've rebooted and opened Word, gone
to Templates and opened Normal - still comes up as Read Only!

Any more ideas?

Check the file attributes of normal.dot to ensure that read only has not
been set.
