Read only message

I have been sent an Access 97 program (front end only). When I try to open
it in Access 2002, with out converting, I get the message "Cannot Update.
Database or Object is Read Only". The read only property is 'false.'

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks
Geoff

Unclear to me: how can you run the FE without the corresponding BE?

While I share Tom's puzzlement, if the application is trying to do anything
in Design mode, it will fail on an unconverted application.

If you open an Access 97 version in a newer version of Access, if you don't
convert the database to that newer version, it is read-only (in that you
cannot modify any objects in design view). This message is just letting you
know that you can't do anything like try to go into design view for a form,
for example.

You can still use the file without converting, but you cannot change
anything but data.
