Read only formatting when saving files

When I copy Word/Excel documents to an external storage
device, then reformat/reinstall windows and MS office on
the computer....when I copy the data files back onto the
hard drive, they all have the attribute as "read only"
even though I did not save them as such on purpose. This
forces me to go to each one and change the attributes to
use it. I need help!

I figured it out, was copying onto cdr, not taking back
off usb hard drive.

When you copy files to a CD (for example) it will be come Read Only.
Easiest way to fix is to open Windows Explorer, browse to the folder where
these files are located, single-click on one of them, hold down the SHIFT
key and click the last one (to select them all), right-click on one of the
files, select "Properties", and uncheck "Read Only". This will get all of
them at once. If by chance one of them isn't "Read Only", the check mark
will not be solid and you might need to check it twice to turn it on, then
off.

Hope this helps!

I'm not sure, but check for this "Go to Save As > (on the save as tool bar,
click "Tools" > Security Options > under the "Security" tab, check to see if
"Read-only recommended" is checked. Its not a gurantee though, but worth
checking.
