Read-only embedded fonts

I have saved a PowerPoint 2002 presentation with embedded
fonts. On opening it, I get the message "This
presentation cannot be edited because it contains a read-
only embedded font". I cannot now amend this presentation
and cannot use "save as". Neither can I copy the slides
to a new presentation. I can find no reference to this
problem in Microsoft's Knowledge Base. Can anyone please
help?

You must have opened it in PowerPoint 2003 on a different system? This is a
change in PowerPoint 2003 that none of us is too happy about. The two
choices you have, it seems, is to open it in PowerPoint 2002 on the system
it was created on and save it without embedded fonts and then move it to the
PowerPoint 2003 system, or install the fonts on the PowerPoint 2003 system
and open it.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I was trying to open it in
PowerPoint 2002, on the same PC I created it. However,
due to a system crash I had to reinstall Windows and did
not install all the previous fonts. Why does PowerPoint
not tell us the fonts we are missing? (Corel Draw does).
They are not even listed in File Properties.
Anyway, I found a posting I missed earlier which
suggested I open the file in an earlier version. I opened
it in PowerPoint 2000 and solved the problem.

It doesn't when the file opens (a good or bad thing, depending on what you plan
to do next) but you can choose Format, Replace Fonts and get a list of fonts in
use in the presentation (not including those in embedded artwork, note)
They are not even listed in File Properties.

Sure they are. File, Properties, click the Contents tab. Under Fonts Used,
there's your list.

Again, not including fonts within embedded stuff.
