Read-Only attribute

How can I copy files from my hard disk to a CD-Rom without the Read-only
attribute? I need to supply these files to others who have to copy them to
their hard drives. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

You can't, at least not using ISO9660, any file copied to CD will be "read
only" by their very nature (they cannot be changed once written). Packet
writing (UDF) software will allow for setting this attribute, but some
systems may have trouble reading disks created with it - so you have to
install the software on every machine if it is not easily read.

you would need both software and hardware that supports UDF...

Depending on what files they are,in most cases the File Transfer Wizard will
take care of that,set computer as old,then in the wizard specify which
files you
want saved,have the data sent to a new folder that you create,once
thru,transfer
the data to a cd.If other types of files,open my computer,R.click on C:
drive,
open,locate the files,copy,or use search,once search shows the
files,R.click on
it,properties,find target,L.click on the results,copy files,copy to new
folder.

You can't. The nature of CD-ROM is that it's read-only.

I need to supply these files to others who have

The files being read-only doesn't prevent someone from copying
them. Unless I've misunderstood your essage, there should be no
problem here.

Did the OP say he was using the File Tranfer Wizard?

Depending on how familiar the "others" are with computers your could try:

You could copy the files to a ZIP compressed file. The ZIP file would
become read only, but the files contained in the ZIP file would not change
to read only. They would need to extract the files.

You could have them copy the files from the CD to a new folder on their
hard drive. Go to that folder in Windows Explorer and select all the files
{Edit, Select All or use shift and mouse}. Right click on the selected
group of files and select Properties. Then the read only attribute can be
cleared from all files in one step. Then move the files where they belong.
