READ ONLY ACCESS TO CHANGE FILE CONTENTS

I have set up a network between my Desktop PC and Laptop via a wireless
router. I have set share access on a folder using the Simple Share UI and
set access to the network and ticked allow the network users to change box
also. I can see the share on the laptop (the desktop is the master source of
files) and can open the folder. I can create files in the folder and I can
delete files from the folder. What I cannot do is amend the contents of an
existing file as the file opens as read only. This issue applies for all
folders that I set share on in this way.

You're help is greatly appreciated!

David,

No need to shout. We hear you fine. ;)

If you're using Simple File Sharing, you need to activate the Guest account for
network access. Then, depending upon what the share is, your network clients
will only get read-only access.

You may also want to check specific settings on the shares, if the above article
doesn't provide the solution.

Hi Chuck, The files are in a partition that I created. I have set the share
at the root of the drive partition. I have also tried it at a sub-folder
level. Many thanks David

OK David,

Let's look at the possibilities.
# With SFS, you can only choose to share or not share, and if shared, to make
read-only or all access. This you can do on a share by share basis.
# With Guest access, there are 2 registry settings to check.

# There are known problems with permissions, generally caused by specific
security updates.
