read ntfs files

Hi can Windows XP Pro on a FAT 32 file system read a hard disk formatted in
NTFS? I have a hard disk formatted in NTFS that a friend wants to connect as
a slave drive to my Windows XP Pro computer formatted in FAT 32 so that he
can copy some files from it. I don't want to open up my computer if it is
not possible.

The ability to read NTFS partitions is inherent in WinXP.
It does not depend on your current type of partition.

I think you'll see an "Access denied" error message when you try
to recover these files. To get around this you will need to take
ownership of the files. Take a look here for the procedure:

Yes. Windows XP can read any and all combinations of NTFS, FAT32,
FAT16, and FAT12, regardless of what file system it itself is
installed on.

WinXP can read FAT12 (the file system used on 3.5" diskettes), FAT16,
FAT32, CDFS (the file system used on most CDs), and NTFS with equal
facility. Further, the file system on any one disk/partition or
diskette has absolutely no affect upon the operating system's ability to
read other compatible file systems on other disks/partitions.
