Read e-mails are gone when I log back into windows

Any e-mails I have opened and read are gone the next time I open my Windows
Mail. They are not in the deleted items folder - they seem to have vanished.

Any solutions?
 
Each folder has an option for View settings. Go to the folder in question
(Inbox?), then click View, Current view, Show All Messages.
