Hi Kurt,

Thanks for the reply. :o) Have decided to settle for Ghetto Geek Goddess.
Is a tee-shirt my daughter found for me for Christmas. <w>

1. Thanks, but I could live with that.
2. Wow, nice to know. For the latter, life should not be lead in any other
manner. I love humor.
3. Thanks and sorry to hear that. Details, later perhaps?
4. What a compliment. Your words mean a great deal to me, heck on the
rest. <w>

Thank you!

Better than the folks here calling me: Maw Gates! :o(

And you aren't a MicroMoron. You are a great help to many people, and do
it with a sense of humor, and although I still think your website is hard
to navigate, I haven't seen a web site with as much info as you have that
isn't.

For what it's worth [and I know there are some that think it ain't worth
nothin'], you are "The Bomb" in my book! :)

What's worse it that the activation scam/folly doesn't impact the crackers
at all. It only affects users such as you and me that PAY for the product.
It makes you wonder if MS cares about their paying customers.

It was introduced specifically to bring it home to the domestic user
(especially) that as they introduced multiple machines around the house
they were *not* entitled to use one copy on all of them

But it goes wider than that. I heard a reliable report of a *Law* firm
that had something like 15 separate machines, and only one properly
licensed copy of any software between them

This really sucks. Even as I write this, I am contemplating replacing my
Realtek NIC since it's socket for the CAT5 has kind of become loose and
I loose connection if the cable is moved even slightly. So given your
comments above, I sould expect I should have go through the same grind.
Not pleasant at all :(

BTW, do your comments still hold if I "remove hardware" the NIC first.
Power down, replace the nic. Then power up and "add hardware" if it is
not already detected?

Yes. But provided you have SP1 installed, you boot up, get a comment,
and have 3 days to get on the net and activate there in about 30
seconds. So as long as you expect it, it is not a big deal

I recently upgraded to a 64 bit mb and processor.
Did a repair install of XP Pro.
Would not activate, popped up a toll free number. Called, took me all of
about 1 minute to get it activated.

And if they had told you your copy was illegal and you had to buy another,
what would have you done? A cracker would never have to make a phone call,
my point, and the point that you did not address. What is it about the MS
shills that makes them incapable of reading content?

And why not? Where does MS get off on writing scammy EULAs to force someone
to pay more than once for the same thing? Prior to XP, MS made a lot of
money with 3.1/9x/Me/NT and 2000. A lot of money.
But it goes wider than that. I heard a reliable report of a *Law* firm

You're assuming that paying for the same thing more than once is OK. I call
it highway robbery even though, reluctantly, I abide by it.

And I agree that the law firm is wrong, as is any commercial entity that
does it is wrong. Individuals have rights to copyrighted material in
the US that businesses don't, and MS, nor any software company has
proven that their word can legally usurp those rights.
