Reaching max connections too soon

Running into a limitation on the number of inbound connections to my machine.
I have 5 other computers that must connect to this machine. It is running
Windows XP PROFESSIONAL, not Home, so I expect not to run into this problem.

I get complaints at least once a day that someone can't connect to the
network folder. Please help me quickly. I've spent way too much time on
this problem already.

The inbound connection limit is not 5 *computers*. It is 5
*connections*. One computer can have several connections to the machine
acting like a server. You would be better off buying a real server os
for the "server" machine. You do not have to set up a domain if you
don't want to, although domain networking has many advantages.

XP Pro is a workstation OS and is therfore limited to 10 inbound
connections. This includes printers as well as shared folders. This is by
design and can not be overridden. If you need more than the 10 iconnections,
you must upgrade to a server product.

If you have three folder shares that need to be shared over the network,
spread them out to three computers, and remap the shares. Backup data &
files daily to a fouth machine, burn the backups to CD/DVD once a week,
and bring to another off-site location.

Shouldn't take too long to do the moving of files and remapping the
shares. There really is no need for spending money on a server and
sever software, for only 5 computers.

Oh, and don't create mapped drives on every computer that needs access
to those folder shares.

Create shortcut to the folders on the desktop of every computer or in
the my docs folder.

I did this on a small computer network of 8 computers, and never ran
into a problem with the too many connections PITA.
