re windows xp not genuine

Hi a friend of mine is running a copy of wi xp pro and last night it updated and sent a icon down saying you are not running a genuine windows and could be commiting a fraudulant offence Hes tryed to delete and uninstall thi icon but it will not go He as allso tryed rebooting but on boot screen he gets a big icon saying the same can anyone advise thanks
