adi run windows 2000xp for a time now when i run disk clean up it will
clean everything up except for compressed files these at present are
261,651. i beleive there might of been some sort of problem but what or when
i do not know. when i repeatedly try and clear these files they get larger.is
there a known probable cause for this can u ununstall disk cleanup and
reinstall so that it functions properly? even though i dont see how as it
does not have a programme on advanced attributes it is tickedwhere it says
compress contents to save disk space is there not such a facility to test
disk clean up for problems? i hope u understand what i have wrote and i
dont sound too thick awaiting for any vital info thanks lindaxx

Hi,

I'm not sure I totaly understand your mean.

1. As you said, you used a disk clean up tool. You also have tried to
uninstal & reinstall this tool. Do you mean this is a third-party tool?
Please let me know the the exact information about this tool.

2. As you said, this tool cleans everything up except for compressed files.
What's the meaning of "clean"? do yu mean delete it?

3. As you said, set options tab to 1 day but windows still does not
compress the files. Which option? And which files Windows should compress?

I'll appreciate your clarifying.

Hi,

You can try:

Run Regedit.exe

Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\EXPLORER\VOLUMECACHES

and deleted the compress old files and webclient and webpublisher

Re-run Disk cleanup to see the results.

Hi Vincent,

I have followed your suggestion and now compress old files has disappeared
altogether from the Disk cleanup. From where can I download the registry
entries to restore to the previous state?

To restore the entry, type this command in Start Run dialog:

regsvr32 dataclen.dll

Thanks Ramesh for this reply. As it happens I have restored to the status
quo using my backup software. The solution may help others though.
