I thought I'd re-post this question I asked a few days ago. Checking out my
main hard drive, I see the option - "Compress drive to save disc space". The
space this saves is significant - but is there a negative side to the
process? I'll await word from someone who knows more about it before I
proceed.
Thanks.

this can slow the drive down if you compress everything. this is because
the computer is having to decompress the files when it reads them.

i compress some of my drives but only the ones containing work and
pictures. my main drive will always be left unconpressed.

Thanks, Anthony. I think I'll leave well enough alone. I have sufficient
disc space, and I don't want to run the risk of slowing down the files, as
you indicate.

Check the responses to your first post. If you can't find it search for

What was it about the original replies you are not clear about?
