Re-populating hostnames in DNS

Guest

We changed the IP addresses of our workstations. I don't
see the new IP addresses associating with the hostnames
in our DNS. I deleted the old hostnames (associating
with the old IPs). How can I have the DNS re-populate
with the new IPs and hostname.

Thank you in advance for anyone's help.

Hi Kevin,

I tried that and it is not working. My DNS must not be
working properly.

When I type nslookup I would get this error:
F:\>nslookup
*** Can't find server name for address 10.43.30.11: Non-
existent domain
*** Can't find server name for address 10.43.6.12: Non-
existent domain
*** Default servers are not available
Default Server: UnKnown
Address: 10.43.30.11

Why am I getting this message?

Thank you,
John

You did not create a new reverse lookup zone for the new IP addresses. If
all your IPs are in the 10.43.x.x IP range do this: Open the DNS console,
open Reverse Lookup Zones, right click select new zone, select standard
primary or AD integrated, then select Reverse Lookup zone name and type in
43.10.in-addr.arpa. next and then finish. Then select the zone properties,
on the general tab select Allow dynamic updates to "Yes" or Secure only if
AD integrated.
Then run ipconfig /registerdns.

Hope This Helps

Also would like to add to make sure the clients are only using this DNS and
that the Primary DNS Suffix is set to this zone name.
