Re-Joining to a domain

Ok, here's the deal.
I have an XP sp2 system that seems to not want to log into the domain anymore.
So what do I do, I run the Network Idenification Wizard to re-join the
system to the domain. But now, the user of the system has lost all their
stuff.
I can see that it actually created them another profile
ex. user1.domain.local.000
and all their files are still in the
user1.domain.local profile, but all their settings, etc are now lost.
Is there a trick to getting their settings back?
Or do I have to just copy all their files over to the new profile it created
and they'll have to re-do all their settings?

In this situation, you need to rename the user's profile folder before you
rejoin the computer to the domain. Then logon as the domain-user once. Log
back on as Adminstrator, and rename the profile again. Check its rights are
suitable. Windows should then be happy that this user's profile-folder is as
it was before.

I'll try that the next time, because it's a real pain now moving all their
stuff over and resetting everything.

Thanks
