Re-installing XP...?

Kenneth

Howdy,

I have a system with two partitions on its hard drive. One
has XP (C:) and the other data files (D:).

I need to re-install XP (Don't ask...) and have this
question:

When I boot from the XP installation CD, will it be possible
for me to format C: only and then reinstall to that
partition (leaving D: unmodified)?

Thanks,

Yes, it's certainly possible. That said, things can go wrong, in a
small number of cases. If your data is at all important to you, back it
up to an external storage device or CD before proceeding.

And here's a suggestion to help prevent confusion over which drive
letter is assigned to which partition, and to help ensure that you don't
accidentally format the wrong partition: simply use WinXP's Disk
Management applet to assign a clearly identifiable volume label to each
partition before starting.

Once you're ready, simply boot from the WinXP installation CD.
You'll be offered the opportunity to delete, create, and format
partitions as part of the installation process. (You may need to
re-arrange the order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

In theory yes.
