Hi, have some serious problems with installing a new op-sys.
seems would be excellent idea to ghost it, if it only took 1 attempt.

find I am having to multiple re-installs, sp2 dl crashing? pci.sys file(s)..
other probs,

If Ghosting would save me a 6-10 Hour, times 5, 6... counting attempts,
will be all over the ghosting thing.

Question is: Can I Ghost my pc to span multiple CD's? as a backup.
incidently, I have backup app that spans disks, called: Stompsoft, Backup
my PC

Thanks.

Yes, various ghosting tools including Norton Ghost and, apparently,
Stompsoft can span CDs/DVDs.

If it were me, I would try to figure out why you are having to do so many
installs. It simply should not be that way.

thankyou.. (to determine if invest), do / can I ghost right to a span of
cd's... or will I need to make a separate partition, or will I be able to
ghost to same (only have 1 partition now), thanks.

some of the minor details are what would cause need for reinstalls. my lack
of technique for one, i'm sure; but then the steps for items needed might
not have bee sufficiently provided / in loading op sys, steps. I know that
is true, e.g.: steps for install new OS provided. Installing drivers /
when, SP2 downloads crashing /drivers/pci.sys.. not me.

example same, question here would be (as am trying to see if I am wasting
time buying ghost now: only see at store so far, as $100 package):..

missing info?: do you think I would need to partition a separate drive to
receive a ghost copy? (else maybe more work upto, including start over new
install?). may not know what doing,,, if steps not provided by software
provider.. thanks

Service Pack 2 is probably not causing your problem. It is probably just
exposing a problem. The corrupt or missing PCI.SYS can point to an
underlying hardware problem or failure--especially if just installing SP2
produces the failure.

In any event, you just "ghost" to the CDs. It is up to the program to break
for spanning. It will prompt you to swap discs.

If you do not already have a program to use, I recommend the new Norton Save
and Restore product. This seems to be in line to replace Norton Ghost, and
I can tell you from experience that this is an excellent program that is
worth its $70 price tag. It is a port to the SOHO market of Symantec's
excellent LiveState product that I have used quite extensively lately. When
Save and Restore was released, I immediatly picked up a copy and found it to
be just as good with some improvements over LiveState that make it more
useful for home use.

You can use Norton Save and Restore to copy your hard drive to another
drive, and that is an excellent choice if you've got the necessary device to
hand. It will also write to CDs/DVDs and shared drives over a network. The
other products you mentioned should work virtually the same way.

was trying to find my note, did have a "serious hard-drive failure" error,
during one of my reformats / re-installs, was hoping can get by on that /
maybe was product of downloads/ reformatting, some mis-measure of out of
range thing. I suppose I could run a chkdsk to check for sure? later
