I re-installed XP (had trouble booting up, so I re-installed over the old
installation). Now my performance is bad. Scrolling is slow, and the
display flashes and is choppy. Everything seems to be taking a lot longer
than it used to. Can anybody help, please?

Did you reformat before installing the new
installation. Sometimes doing a low-level format,
restarting the installation process then doing a quick
format can solve problems like this. Also remeber that
you will need to reinstall all you hardware drivers after
a Windows installation.
