Re-installed winxp now cannot read slave disk

I have 2 hard disks 30GB as master with op system and
60GB for storage and back ups. I have just formatted the
master (drive c) and re-istalled win xp pro and now I
cannot read the slave drive. Message says "Disk in drive
is not formatted - format now?" I have most of the data
from slave disk backed up onto 25 CD's just in case of a
problem like this but I would like to read from slave
disk. Any help would be appreciated. Import foreign disk
is not available. disks are ntfs have removed and re-
installed slave disk. computer identifies disk correctly -
it just acts like I have just bought a new un formatted
disk from the shop for the first time.

Not master/slave settings on each drive. Have you tried to
download a disk utility from the manufacture of the drive
and run diagnostics? Checked for a hard drive firmware
update. I would run a diag on the drive itself.
