re-install XP

I re installed windows xp on my computer, but, must have
done something wrong.

All of my programs and documents seem to be seperate.
The programs are not useable, but I can see them under my
computer.

How do I delete the XP I loaded and re- install it
properly over the older copy of XP that was missing some
files.
