Re-Install Word etc. after HD crash

My laptop's HD crashed and needed to get replaced. While it was on its last
breadth, I frantically backed up some stuff on an external drive including
"Program Files". I now have the laptop back, but need to reinstall some
programs, including Word (all my prior Word docs now show up as Wordpad
documents).

I purchased the laptop with only Microsoft Works and ended up purchasing
some sort of upgrade to get Word. I can't recall exactly how I installed but
know I had Word prior to the crash. I may have downloaded the program from
Microsoft.

Assuming the necessary programs are in the Program Files backed up on my
external drive, how can I extract and install Word without copying the whole
Program Files back onto my C drive? Thanks.

You cannot install Word or Office by copying files from one hard
drive to another. You need to install using the original
Word/Office CD and product key.
