Hi,

I need to reinstall Windows XPpro but want to keep all my addresses and
emails. I have a second harddrive which is empty.
This is what I have done so far: found the WAB file and copied to spare
drive.
Theninn OE6 I went to Tools, options, maintenance, Store Folder and found
the folder, then copied that folder to the spare drive.

When I reinstall XP can I simply copy the WAB file back?
Then for the emails can I find the new folder and then copy the contents of
the old store folder into the new one (ie all the .dbx files)
Or is this all too simple?

TIA

James

If your going to do a format/clean install, you're right. You need to backup
anything you want to keep.

For the address book, there is a simpler way.
Open the Address Book, click File, Export, WAB and save it to a file name on
your backup drive.
For OE: Two things:
Backup your email and other accounts so you don't have to set them up
again.
Click Tools, Accounts, Email, Export button and save that file to your
backup drive (do this for any account you want to save)
For the email itself: Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\"user
name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\
Expand that folder look for huge ID numbers. Expand each one and look
under Microsoft folder for Outlook Express folder.
Just copy that folder to your backup drive.

Other backups to remember:
Look over your internet connection so you know how to set that up.
Review the PC hardware so you know the hardware drivers you need.
Within your profile user name folder, make a copy of your documents.
Make a copy of your Favorites folder.
Don't forget any saved game files.(depends on the game)
Any music or pictures.

Now to restore.
After your clean install, once you have your profile setup:

Address Book: open address book and click File, Import, WAB and select the
file your saved earlier.
OE: Open OE, cancel the wizard, click Tools, Accounts, Import and import the
account setting you saved.
Click File, Import, Messages, select OE 6, select Import from OE 6
Directory, and nav. to the store folder on your backup drive. Just go with
all folders and it will pull them in just like they were before.
Copy over other stuff, such as Favorites, Documents, etc....

In OE, click File|Export|Address Book and do it as a .csv (comma delimited)
type of export file. You can then later import it back (great for backups,
too). You can copy your Favorites folder somewhere else and copy it back
later, too (usually it's in the \Documents and Settings\{account
name}folder). Copying the .wab file back to a new install of OE probably
will not work! You need to do the export/import thing, instead.
