Scenario:

A network with 75 sites and 150 DC's all of them are Windows 2000, by unkwon
reason the network administrator disable kcc for create automatic connections.

The question are: How can i re enable kcc.?

In some event i see a MS engineer doing this with ADSI Edit, but i dont know
where or how.

Thanks

Thanks a lot for the url's.

To re enable its ok a value of 0 ? or just click on the clear button in ADSI
Edit and leave the value as <not set> ??

the options attribute consists of bits...

when:
<not set> = KCC fully enabled for both intra en inter
0 = KCC fully enabled for both intra en inter
1 = KCC fully disabled for intra
16 = KCC fully disabled for inter
17 = KCC fully disabled for both intra en inter

if it has another value extract the value to do the opposite

extract the value 16 from the current value to enable the KCC for intersite
repl.

Jorge,

I don´t really understand what you try to say with "extract" to do the
opposite or "extract" the value of 16........

Sorry.

example... (does not mean you should do this for real, use your OWN values)

if the value at this moment is: 17

and you goal is: enable only KCC for intersite repl. (opposite is disable
KCC for intersite repl = 16)

so: 17-16=1 which means the end result: only the KCC for intrasite repl will
be disabled

the options attribute of the NTDS Site Settings object might have other bits
enabled/disabled that you are not telling us about

OK

I understand.

In fact the value that have the options atribute was 16, so i changed to 0.

I discover that only some sites have the 16 value, the rest have <not set>.

Rignt now i have a problem: If i delete the manual connections in the site
and in the parent dc, later i click on check replication topology (ad
sites&services and replmon)in both servers nothings happen, i mean, the
automatic connections never appear, this site doesnt have the 16, they have
<not set>.

I check DNS, open ports, system logs and everything appears ok, any idea ??

Thanks a lot Jorge

to trigger the KCC to generate the inter site repl topology you need to kick
the DC that owns the ISTG role. On each NTDS Site Settings object you can
see who the ISTG is. If you do check replication topology on that DC it
should generate the intersite repl topology.
After doing that press F5 for a refresh.

Remember that if you are making changes in DCa for DCb those changes need to
replicate first to DCb, then gen. the repl. top., then replicate back. So it
is possible things are happening but you don't see them yet!

The scenario

Sites:

-Corp (the site for the parent domain)
-CorpBO (site for a branch office for parent domain)
-Child (The Site for the child domain)
-ChildBO (Site for a branch office for child domain)

In Child site exists 1 DC (ChildDC), in ChildBO site exists 2 Dc's (ChildBOa
and ChildBOb)

The goal:

From Child site the DC (ChildDC) we need an automatic connection to
ChildBOa, obviously in ChildBOa need to exist and automatic connection to the
ChildDC and to ChildBOb.

What we do:

Delete manual connections between ChildDC and ChildBOa (this operation was
made it in ChildDC).
Replicate the changes with replmon (also from ChildDC.).
Check replication topology from ChildDC.

All this actions was made it yesterday in the night, but today we dont see
any automatic connections.

Thanks again

Jorge,

Thanks a lot for your patience, help and comments

I discover that Intersite Messaging Service was stoped on the ChildDC domain
controller.

I start the service and everything is working right now.
