re-edit chart title causes errors

I am building several charts on a worksheet and pulling data from other
sheets in the workbook. After having one or two charts in a worksheet I have
to edit chart titles to reflect the data because it changes. When I attempt
to edit the chart title sometimes it works perfectly, but most of the time it
displays the first letter typed and all other info in chart title is lost.
Undo takes me back to where I was. I am highlighting the text that I want to
change and then typing the new text this is when it flakes out and only
captures and displays first typed letter. When I do this all the characters I
type appear in the formula bar but when I hit enter only the first character
is displayed.

Also

in edit text mode attempting to delete one character in the chart title can
cause the whole chart to be deleted.

I am running a dell optiplex 330 with 3 gig of ram, Windows XP Pro sp3 and
office 2007 pro

patches, hot fixes would be helpfull , current work around is to delete and
retype the entire chart title but that is not the way its supposed to work.

I have the same exact problem and it is VERY frustrating. I noticed that
everything after the first letter goes to the formula bar for some reason.
Also, when I try to move an element in a chart such as data point, I have to
do it twice (the first time i move it nothing happens.). Finally, when I try
to edit a text box i placed in the chart it places a new text box right over
the original text box; basically i get a text box with the edited text on top
of the original text box. I know its not a hardware problem because it
happens on any computer i use on campus.

I wonder how somebody can pass off something so unintuitive and broken as a
finished product....
