Extra Lines Inserted in Multi-Line Chart Titles

Has anyone else encountered the following problem?

Very frequently, when I create a chart in Excel 2007, give the chart a
2-or-3-line title, save worksheet in the Excel 97-2003 file format, and then
re-open the file in Excel 2007, I will find that Excel has inserted two extra
linefeed characters (ASCII character 10) between each line and often
truncates the last character or last few characters in the chart title.

In one three-line chart title, Excel inserted a linefeed character before
the last letter in the line (the line was 55 characters long, including
spaces) and then inserted two more linefeed characters before the next line
in the chart.

When the linefeed problem occurs, Excel often truncates the last character
or last few characters in the title.

Clients who receive the file and open it in Excel 2003 or Excel 2002 tell me
that the chart titles look normal. This problem does not occur when the
Excel file is saved in the new Excel 2007 file format. I cannot seem to find
any references to the problem in the Microsoft KnowledgeBase.

Here's an example of the problem (I don't know whether this message box will
get rid of the linefeeds when this message is displayed in the Excel
discussion group):

HAI 2BWT4: Central Line Associated Bloodstream

Infections (CLABSI) Rate per 1,000 ICU Neonates Weighin
g

1,501 to 2,500 Grams by Xxxxx Hospital from 2007 Q1 to 2008

In the case above, " Q2" was truncated at the end of the third line of the
chart title.

Hi,

I tested with 10 charts and could not duplicate your problem. Make sure you
are running SP I.
