Re: Can't get Server Service started

My guess is that the error is something about file not found or module not
found.

See if this file exists:

\windows\system32\srvsvc.dll

What brand machine is this?

I am having problem to share files and printer from one of my XP Pro computers.
Other 3 computers (all running XP Pro) can see that first computer but
cannot access its files or its printer.
All 4 computers are connected through a workgroup in a home wired ethernet network.
It turned out that the Server Service is not starting in the first "problem" computer.
I tried to re-start it from the "Computer Management" window, under Services, with no avail.
The computer was running fine and sharing files and printer normally until
last week when I started getting this problem.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
Yes, the srvsvc.dll is in this location.
I built this computer myself 4 years ago - PIII 600Mhz,
500MB RAM, Asus m/b, etc.

Any further suggestions? Thanks!

Ah, well then you'll have to tell us the error.

Open a command prompt and type "net start lanmanserver" and post the
results.

How to get a fresh copy of srvsvc.dll from the XP PRO CD?
I did a search on the CD and I did not find it.
In which directory of the CD should this file be located?
Thanks for the feedback!

Don't know if you are still looking for an answer to your problem but
you might want to try removing File and Print Sharing for MS Networks
and then reinstalling it (Control Panel - Local Area Connection -
Right click and select Properties - Uninstall... - select File and
Print Sharing for MS Networks - click Yes on the popup - click Close
on the Local Area properties / to reinstall go back to the properties
for the Local Area Connection - select Services and click Add - select
File and Print Sharing for MS - click Close) to resolve the issue.
Hope that helps.
