Can't access printer over network (advanced)

P

pxpx

I have a printer connected to a computer which is on a wired network
through a hub.

every time I try and access the printer or the workgroup computers I
get the "you do not have the correct permissions..."

I have done all the basics..
disabled firewall
checked the file and print sharing for microsoft

i started the "server" service which allowed me to share the printer
but I still cant see it on the other computers.

the person whose set up this is said they locked it down basically, but
I'm think there might be some services I can turn back on.... or
something like that to open the network up so the other computers can
see it.

please help

I would suggest investigating the purchase of a 'print server' - a small box
which usually works with the LPR (Unix printing) protocol.

Install LPR client onto computers, create a port pointing at the
printserver's address... basically it works more reliably because it's
independent of user-logons, so if someone changes their password or whatever
it won't stop working.
