Re-booting windows XP

if i reboot my windows XP would i need to have the CD to reinstall it or no?
cuz im thinking of rebooting it and would like to know what programs would
not get erased and would stay. any help would be greatly appreciated..

I think you mean re-format, re-boot is what you do when you switch off and
on again.

However you need to have all the set-up CD's for programs on your PC now. If
you do re-format there will be nothing on your PC unless you re-install it
and that includes Windows XP itself.

If you purchased your PC with XP installed along with other software then I
would check the documentation that came with the PC. There may be a recovery
partition or CD that came with the PC.

Neil..my friend has XP..she tried installing Verizon cable DSL..now she
cannot get Windows to operate correctly. we tried to back up all her ifiles
etc,,but it wont back them up so to have Windows reformatted,,she would lose
everything, At first I thought it was her driver but it runs on some
things,,she can copy her pics to a cd..but what can we do to re format
Windows? she has #1 cd for restoring but cannot find #2..will we have to go
to Emachines to get a new set of restoring cd"s?? help..could the Verizon
installation hurt something?
