RDA, ActiveSync & SQL Server CE Relay

Hello,

I'm curently looking into using RDA to synchronise an SQL CE database
on my pocket PC with an SQL Server via ActiveSync.

I've read a fair few MSDN documents but have found it difficult
determine which versions of the software they refer to. In other words
I'm not sure weather what I'm reading is the current the thing to do.

In this document:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d...-us/sqlce/htm/_lce_connectivity_solutions.asp

It says: "You can configure Microsoft ActiveSync® 3.5 or ActiveSync
3.1 with SQL Server CE Relay, to use the network connection on a
desktop computer to communicate with SQL Server. This eliminates the
requirement for the Windows CE-based device to have a network card or
modem."

Does the above statement mean that only ActiveSync 3.1 requires the
addition of SQL Server CE Relay and that ActiveSync 3.5 has it built in
or does ActiveSync 3.5 need it as well?

Of course I'll actually be using ActiveSync 3.7 but I'm assuming that
if ActiveSync 3.5 doesn't need SQL Server CE Relay 3.7 won't.

Thanks in advance,

Matt

This one must have been too tricky for the experts.
I've found the answer here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d...en-us/sqlce/htm/_lce_server_configuration.asp

"ActiveSync is required in the development environment to deploy and
debug applications. Microsoft Windows Powered Pocket PC 2002 can use
ActiveSync 3.5 or later to synchronize SQL Server CE over a serial,
infrared (IR), or USB connection. When using Pocket PC 2000 or Handheld
PC 2000 mobile devices, you must use SQL Server CE Relay in conjunction
with IIS to synchronize over these connections. For more information,
see Using SQL Server CE Relay with an ActiveSync System."
