RC2 install issues

I am trying to install RC2 over XP Pro by choosing to 'update'. It seems to
install fine, but just after setting the clock and choosing to start, my
screen goes blank, flashes the blue screen and reboots. I've tried a number
of times now, and I'm wondering (since I didn't have a previous Beta version
or RC1) if I have to do a complete install? I tried booting from the disc
but as I'm typing this, I can see that's no help either? Any ideas? I have
a KT 600 Dragon Soyo MOBO and GForce Nvidia graphics card. I should probably
mention that I had a similar problem with RC1, but it never finished the
install before giving me a memory reference error of 0x00000000 at
0x00000008.

Ok, I see alot of other people are having a similar issue, but some are able
to actually see the error, my blue screen doesn't even stay up that long. I
tried to boot from the DVD, and performed a diagnostic check, all error codes
came back 0x0 and it shows that the install completely successfully. What
gives?

Try removing all non-essential cards (sound card, NIC card etc and do the
install wih minimal hardware - once install comes up, start cleaning up
problems in Device manager and run all updates. Then start adding back in
the removed cards, one at time with a reboot in between - make sure
everything is ok before adding the next card.

In my case it was a PCI modem causing the blue screen. I booted to safe
mode and disabled it and the boot went fine. You might try disabling
devices this way to check.

For me, 5744 (and 5728) seem to be a step backward from 5600, but it depends
on how you use it and what equipment you need to work.

Thanks for the help, but I ended up having to do a complete install. Thank
god I back up all my files to DVD. When I booted from the DVD the second
time, it had blocked out the option to do an 'upgrade'. Anyway, I have the
install complete and it seems to be functioning great even with the beta
drivers from NVidia for my graphics card. I still have to back and install
everything else, but it's working great so far!
