RC1 Installation

When I first got the RC1 iso file, I burnt it to a DVD and installed it on
one of my two computers. This installation worked fine, so I tried it on
the other. The installation ran fine until it got to the "Completing
Installation" section. It seemed to skip this entirely, then rebooted into
Vista. The boot screen loaded, then the mouse appeared with the usual
"Windows Vista (TM) RC1 Evaluation Copy. Build 5600", the same as my on
other computer, over a black screen. However, before anything else
happened, the computer restarted. This repeated until I rolled back the
installation. I've tried this 3 times now, with the same result. Does
anyone know why this happens?

How are you installing? From an XP desktop or by booting with the dvd?
Please provide some info about your hardware, especially whether the drives
are SATA or IDE, etc.

Doing an upgrade install of Beta2, I had the same
result. Gets to the end, looks like all is fine and then
it just restarts- never getting past that. I also didn't have
any compatibility issues raised by the install process.
I ended doing a clean install on that computer.

I never figured out what the problem was- but, on
subsequent upgrade installs of a Vista version to
a later version- I went ahead and removed any
programs that I had installed that did not originally
come with Vista. After making sure I had a bare
Vista, I have had no problems with the upgrade
installs.

I have no proof, but, I think there may have been some
sort of conflict with Trend's beta AV. Or, it could have
been some gremlin gone wild.

I have come to the conclusion that all AV software needs to be removed
before an upgrade, not merely turned off.
