RC1 64-bits is slooooooooow

Hi!

I downloaded RC1 64-Bits.
I checked MD5 and SHA1 and it was OK.
I burned at the lowest speed (4X).

I've just installed it.
It is a clean install; before, I formatted C:

It took 4 hours to install.
Now, it works well.

But, everything is so slow, so slow, so slow.
It is unusable.

Does anybody have this problem ? ? ? ? By the way, I did not have this
problem with Build 5384 64-bits.

But, I do not get BSOD 0x0000001A each 5 minutes like RC1 32-bits.

Bonne nuit! Roger

Four hours? Seriously?
I installed Vista-64 in about 30 minutes.
I suppose having a Core-2 Duo at 2.4 GHz has something to do with that. :)

Regardless of the hardware, no install should take 4 hours. Install times has
been one of the things Microsoft has been working on.

I installed pre RC-1 in 30 minutes on a Celeron processor.

Well, depends, if it is an upgrade, it can take longer. But, x64 is slow
though, but I am hoping there is some performance tuning left to be done.
The Vista x64 Ultimate took 46 mins on my system to install.

Yes, my Core 2 Duo did about the same. Available hard drive space and
memory can affect the installation time as well.

sounds like install did not perform correctly.
should not be longer than approx 30 minutes.

if yours really took 4 hours, you got a serious problem and probably should try it again.
when you formatted, did you use NTFS. did you use the format option from the install dvd.

next time unplug all not needed devices during isntall.

disable all not needed devices in bios, serial ports, parallel ports, usb, etc.... including any extra hard drives not needed during install.

Also sounded like a hardware problem to me as well.. perhaps bad or missing
chipset drivers, or bad ram. system specs would always be nice when someone
posts a thread like this.

Hi!

Thank you for your answers.

Here are answers to your questions:

1. CPU : Intel Extreme Edition Dual Core 3.73 GHz
2. memory : 4 GB
3. it is a clean install
4. hard disk : WD Raptor 10000RPM, 150 GB
5. before installing, I formatted the hard disk using the format option from
the install DVD; it is NTFS

It is so slow.

To start RC1, it takes 3 minutes before having the logon screen.

By the way, USB works well.
It works weel also with Build 5384 64-bits.
It dit not work neither with Build 5384 32-bits nor with RC1 32-bits.

Merci encore! Roger

How long did the 32bit take?

Sounds like a driver issue to me.

Windows logs performance info and can pinpoint 'bits' that are slowing the
system down.

I have a LAPTOP, vista took less than 20Mins to install, I was very
impressed, and its not as good spec as your desktop.

It does have RAID 0 disks, so thats going to speed things up somewhat.

Hi Steve!

It took 45 minutes to install RC1 32-bits.

It took 45 minutes also to install Build 5384 64-bits.

It is always a clean install and I formatted the hard disk before the
installation.

Thank you! Roger

It took 25 min in both installs X64 in my desktop and laptop

Definatly sounds like a chipset driver problem. you try loading the xp64
drivers for your board? What is your current system rating? be interesting to
see what your drive score was, a horible driver can put a choke hold on the
bandwidth.

there is an option in the control panel to display problems and error reports.
might take a look at it.

also check the event viewer for any error reports.

Hi!

Here is my performance rating:
(the first one is 32-bits and the second one is 64-bits)

Processor : 5.3, 3.5
Memory : 5.3, 1.2
Graphics : 5.9, 2.9
Gaming graphics : 5.9, 5.8
Primary hard disk : 5.9, 5.4

My processor : Intel Extreme edition Dual core 3.73 GHz
Memory : 4 GB
Graphics : ASUS EN7900GTX 512M
Hard disk : WD Raptor 10000RPM 150 GB.
Motherboard : ASUS P5N32-Sli Deluxe

I think I have a problem concerning memory in 64-bits mode.

Merci beaucoup! Roger
