Thanks Tom. I appreciate all your time on this. It's too bad that MS does
not have a more direct means of absorbing this kind of information because I
thought the whole intent of the pre-RC1 release was to vet these types of
problems. I don't think they have any way of knowing that this failure is
occuring because according to the log files Dr. Watson is not working.

Again, many thanks.

I am having the same trouble with the "files missing or corrupt issue." Here
is what I have tried thus far:

Boot to Vista and try upgrade ** Failed
Boot to Vista DVD and tried clean install ** Failed
Boot to Vista and try Clean Install ** Failed
Boot to XP and try upgrade ** Failed
Boot to XP and try Clean Install ** Failed

I get the exact same error with every one of these attempts. I can't quote
it exactly, but it says something about missing or corrupt files needed for
installation. Restart and try again. I have tried the restart and try again
and again and again, with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Benny,
I'm not sure about everyone else in this thread, but I was not having
problems with files missing or corrupt. The problem in this thread is with
Vista coming back with an error that says "installation cannot continue."
I've seen your issue being discussed in threads that talk about bad ISO
burns. Just thought I would give you a heads up!

Hi Mike,

Mine makes it through various phases before dieing. I also get the
"installation cannot continue" error, but as I read on further the error also
states some files needed for installation are missing or corrupt.

Gents,

I think Mike is correct. My ISO appears to work fine as I gave the CD to an
associate who had no problems installing from it.

Thanks,

I was having a problem getting Vista to install on Virtual PC. It kept
crapping out because for some reason VPC can't handle the huge files on the
DVD. I finally had to install XP to the VPC then I used WinRAR to make
smaller files out of the DVD files to copy over to the VPC-XP then I did an
upgrade.

What a PITA!

I, too, am encountering a related error when the Pre-RC 1 reaches about 6% of
the file copy progress:

2006-09-02 14:08:02, Info IBSLIB
SetupQueueCopyExecute:Destination path is

2006-09-02 14:08:20, Info MIG PublishCriticalError:
Windows installation encountered an error and cannot continue.

I was never able to successfully install Beta 2 due to issues with the
installer not successfully detecting my 2nd SATA drive connection, and then
once that was resolved and the install 'completed' I had to roll it back to
Windows XP because only a black screen with only the build number would
display, no desktop.

Now the Pre-RC1 doesn't complain about the SATA drive like beta 2 did, but
encounters this.

If more logs are still needed, I have ftp'd a Resources.zip to the location
noted above into the toolstech directory.

Aside for the fact that I keep getting errors trying to post a reply to this
thread (hoping this one goes through), I have also been receiving the same
install error.

If more setup logs are required, I have posted a Panther.zip to the

Oops. And _now_ despite the errors I see that all prior posts did get
through. Sorry folks for the duplicates.

It seems that for me, the root of my upgrade problem is that the pre-RC1
installer keeps getting errors in the log indicating that it can not find the
uninstall key of the very last entry in the Windows\Uninstall structure of
the registry. If I uninstall the product associated with that last entry,
the installer goes a bit further, and then fails with the same error on the
next product up the list. Always failing on the last product, in
alpha-numeric order.

I had an empty 25 GB partition on my PC, and was able to perform a clean
install of Vista to that partition without error. It's only the upgrade that
is encountering problems due to the uninstall key errors.

Hi all,

It appears that MS knows about this issue and according to them it has just
been fixed and will be available in builds greater than 5600 (RC1)

Will/Do we have access to this build, or are we going to have to wait until
the public release?

If it appears that MSFT knows the issue, and RC1 is going to the public 6
million or whatevah in 72 hours--why the hell haven't they put it on their
50 million sites. Why isn't it on press pass?

Why are they just whsiperin to the TBT, TAP and the other alphabet groups?
