RASMAN Dependencies

Could anyone please help me to identify the binaries that
RASMAN depends upon.

On my W2K Pro/SP4 machine, I cannot create a new dial-up
connection. The Event Log shows the message:

"Remote Access Connection Manager failed to start because
the Point to Point Protocol failed to initialize. The
specified module could not be found." (20067)

(No module name appears in the details.

I suspect that I have an incorrect version of one (or
more) of the binary files that RASMAN invokes (directly or
indirectly). If I knew which binaries are involved, I
could compare the system that does not work with one that
does.

I have seen KB 823405 and restarting the machine does not
cure the problem for me.

I have also found
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/q1
17/3/04.asp&NoWebContent=1

For the particular error message I am getting it suggests
that I could re-install RAS with PPP. Could someone
please tell me how I can selectively re-install those
parts of the O/S?

Finally, I have seen some information saying that this
situation might be caused by Hotfix 823803. Can anyone
confirm that? What risk would I be taking by removing
that Hotfix ?

Thanks
Dennis

Reasons for this problem could be -
- mismatch in the rasppp.dll, check the versions of the other ras binaries
and check if there is a mismatch.
- Low memory
- Registry corruption [ you might have to reinstall the component then]

Thanks for your information. I finally tracked it down to
the fact that there was no RASPPP.DLL present in my
\SYSTEM32 directory. Not sure how that happened but I
found a copy of that DLL in my Service Pack install
directory which had the same date and time stamp as the
other RAS DLLs, so I copied that to \SYSTEM32 and all was
well.
