RAS ? That Im Sure Has Been Asked But...

My newserver's retention sucks so I can't look back all that far. Here's my
issue:

I have a W2K client box that I would like to set up with RAS.

I want to RAS into the W2k client then use pcAnywhere to access it, amongst
other devices on the same subnet.

I have set up an "Incoming Connections" connection and have successfully dialed
into the W2K Client box, but I cannot pcAnywhere to other PCs.

I have attempted the "Incoming Connections" with both DHCP and two successive
static IPs, to no avail.

I have to be missing something, any suggestion would be helpful at this point.

Thanks

You shouldn't need PCAnywhere. You should be able to contact the other
machines on the network directly.

The thing to remember about VPN is that it doesn't carry LAN broadcasts.
It just gives you an IP connection. If you can ping a machine by its IP
address, VPN is working. Name resolution is a different matter. If you have
DNS or WINS running on the LAN, you can use that. Otherwise you will need
HOSTS or LMHOSTS files to resolve names to IP addresses.

In my previous post I said VPN. The same thing applies with RAS. VPN is
just a special case of RAS really. It uses pptp instead of ppp to tunnel
through a network instead of using a phone line. They are both
point-to-point connections and work the same way.

Can't access remote resources via XP VPN host

Situation: A small office setup a XP as VPN host using Incoming Connection. The users can establish the VPN from home and ping the XP. However, he can't ping other remote computers in the office.

Troubleshooting:

1.. The IP range in office is 192.168.254/24 and the computer at home is 192.168.0.0/24. So, that is OK.
2.. The VPN server IP is 192.168.254.100 and the VPN client IP is 192.168.254.101. That looks good too.
3.. Allow callers to access my local area network is enabled. However, ipconfig /all displays IP Routing Enabled is No.
Analysis: by default, when Allow callers to access my local area network is enabled, IP routing should be enabled too. However, in this case, it might not enable for some reasons or some one might modify the IP routing.

Resolution: enable IP routing.
