Randomly dialing up

We have a small network with one computer that has an
internet connection. On a very frequent and seemingly
random basis that computer will dial up. Is XP or Norton
Antivirus trying to get updates? How do I control this
very annoying problem?

Try this:
Internet Explorer > tools > Internet Options > Connections > Never dial a
connection
