random shutdown and programs fail

My computer suddenly started shutdowns at random times. They aren't too often
but very strange. Then on startup we have the computer set to request a
password. when you click on the icon it just flashes the password box instead
of just opening it. I figured out that in order to make it stay up so you
could actually put in the pass word you have to press a key on the key board.
then not too long after that i was going to work in Adobe Photoshop and
suddenly realized that it wouldent open or create new documents, so i figured
maybe something important got deleted so i removed it from my computer and
re-installed it. But still it continued to do the same thing. I then did
virus scans and ad ware scans to make sure there was nothing on my computer
that shouldn't be. my results from those scans were nothing. It seemed to
think that everything was fine. I am still continuing to have problems and i
dont know what to do. I cant even move icons on my desktop, or drag files
into new places. Someone please help me. What do i do?

What do i do? i am in the same boat. i have just bought my computer and it came with vista home basic. i have tried to copy a dvd of my sons wedding onto another disc for his godmother and before i can copy it the computer closes off and restarts. If someone could help us work out the problem it would be greatly appreciated.
