Random reboots under Windows x64, HELP.

Hi,

I own an Athlon x2 processor (4400+) and I'm currently running Windows
XP Pro sp1 x64.

My system specs are as follows:

Asus A8n32-SLI Deluxe MB
Asus EN7800GTX Nvidia 256 Mb video card
4 x 512 mb PC4000 OCZ Gold Rev. 2 Ram
250Gb WD 16 Mb SATA2 HDD
500 watt Antec Fanless power supply
creative x-Fi sound blaster Xtreme Music Sound card

plus all the usual peripherals etc..

I have a problem with my ssytem that is driving me insane and I wonder
if anyone here can help me.

My problem is as follows: My system randomly reboots itself with out
any warning. The reboot are sometimes completely random, as in I'm not
using any software and the computer is just idle and other times tne
reboots occur when I using anything from MS Office to playing a game.
I've scanned my system for viruses and found nothing, I've useed a
bunch of anti spyware programs and deleted anything those programs
found, but still the reboots occur. What's going on???? My ssytem is
relatively new and this is driving me crazy. I've intalled all the 64
bit compatible drivers I can find for my hardware and ther doesnt seem
to be a problem so what gives. Sometimes i get an error in windows
after the reboot that a serious problem occured and that it was
potentialy hardware related. Could it be, if anyone has a clue or
wants to help me out please go ahead.

Interesting... I just assembled a new system.
Asus K8N, Athlon, 2 X 512Mb 400ddr RAM, etc., starts, posts and and
loads the proposed OS (Win XP pro) to the point where it says " loading
NTFS file system...", whereas it will then reboot and loads to the same
point. It does this consistantly.

I tried a different OS disk ( Win2K) and it goes to a point where it
asks if you want to load an OS, Repair, etc. When you press ENTER, the
system says "Please wait..." and remains there.

Initially, I removed one of the memory boards and the system load went
on as it was supposed to. However, swapping the one I removed, back in,
didn't make any difference. it still worked, with one board. It's when
you insert the 2nd (either) memory board that the system fails.
Other than the #2 Dimm slot being bad, I'm trying to find out if there
are any 'brand issues' with the type of memory used. Have you looked at
that/

Hi,

I had the same problem as you describe. Your computer probably reboots
because of a blue screen (Machine check exception, probably), There is
an option to turn of the automatic reboot when a blue screen appears.
(Google for it) With the blue screen you have information about the
error, googling for the, F.I. 0x0000009c number (This number is on the
blue screen at the bottom, will give you a lot of solutions.
My problem was that my cheap soundcard was causing the reboots.
Incompatible hardware probably. I removed the sound card and the problem
didn't return.
Suggestion: Start bottom up, Remove all PCI cards and other hardware and
check if the problem is still there. (Probably the only way)

This error occured when i tried to open a video file in Winamp. This

from what I can see it is a prog called 'asus smartdoctor' that seems to be
causing the problem.

This is just great. The errors just keep coming. I did a google
search on past errors I've had and they are both either hardware or
software (OS related). Some having to do with IrQ's and other
internal Windows things. THere actually are several specialized
updates available for most of theese errors but I can't apply them to
my system as they are only for Windows 2003 Server or Windows 2000?!?!
Way to go Micro $hit...make updates available for only a small niche
segment of your clientelle and leave the others behind.

Don't know what to do anymore, might go back to Wndows xp pro, but i
dont want to I actually see a performance improvement with my procesor
and win x64. I still get errors with win xp pro to but less often.
Too bad, guess I'll have to wait for vista to come out. Maybe then.

P.S. I took out my top of the line Sound Blaster X-FI Xtreme music
card and I've noticed fewer crashes, at least onone relating to my
sound hardware anymore....

Odd, the latest error was a : 0x000000D1 error...something about IRQ's
and nvata64.sys file. and a title of DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

It sounds an awful lot like the type of instability that is caused by a
marginal (or failing) power supply. Have you tried swapping in another one
to see if it helps?

Guys.. IM in the exact same situation. With regard to the windows movie player. I think its the DIvx codec but im not sure. I think its todo with the graphics card and asus mboards. A fix would be appriciated.

I just fixed mine by reading your posts.

Boot into safemode (f8) Add or remove programs take out antything you dont know or recongnize.
Or anything that says AMD 64 or whatever in it.

Then RUN>MSCONFIG>sTARTUP(TAB) uncheck all boxes. Boot into normal and see if the error still occurs.

And re enable all of your startup programs if this works.

You can figure out which program it is that causes the problem if its either unisntalled or removed from that list.
