random programs opening

im having problems with vista again. all of a sudden random programs have
started opening of their own accord. Windows Media Player, Windows mail,
the start menu and the calculator all seem to have a life of their own.
They keep opening and screens suddenly change without me doing anything. To
me, it looks like a virus? I have panda running and have done virus scans
but nothing has shown up. i have also ran defender and ad-aware but they
show nothing unusual. Also, when ever windows mail opens it does not respond
for the first 3 or 4 minutes. I've tried to run online virus scanners such
as trend and kapersky but none of them will work. they dont seem to load.
i used a restore point to see if that would help but it hasn't. Could
someone please give me some helpful advice as its beginning to get really
annoying. Its vista home premium im running.

It sounds like 1) your mouse is broken; 2) your keyboard is broken (or
something is resting on one of the keys). If you have a wireless
mouse/keyboard, replace the batteries. If you have a wired
mouse/keyboard, try a different mouse and/or keyboard. Start with the mouse.

Does your laptop have a touch pad? I've seen these cause problem with
some users when the sensitivity is set to high,

i;ve checked the touched pad settings as well and have changed them to lower
sensitivity now, but it hasn't solved this. Various programes still opening
up all over the place. Can you suggest something else please.

The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time
things worked and the time they didn't? If you can't figure this out,
you might try reinstalling your touchpad drivers. Only get them from the
laptop mftr.'s website for your specific model machine. If that doesn't
work, contact the laptop mftr.'s tech support for repair/replacement.

thanks again for your response. The first thing I actually noticed
happening was that when internet explorer was open it would suddenly go into
full screen mode. The mouse pointer is not moving around as you would
expect if this was related to the touchpad. Is there a possibility that
this could be viral related or malware related and the scanners are just not
picking it up? As i said previously, I tried to do online scans but for
some reason they would not load. I will reload touchpad drivers as you
suggest and see if that makes any difference although I really feel this is
not where the problem lies.

Frankly, I feel this is probably hardware which is what I first
suggested. However, there is no way for me to be sure without seeing the
machine. Therefore, try some software solutions such as the drivers
which are easy and free. If no joy, then it is probably hardware. This
does not sound like a virus (software) to me.
