random nanmed folders in my docs

Greetings,

Over the last few weeks ive been having reports from users of randomly named
empty folders appearing in their my documents folders.

The folders are named with just random letters and numbers no more than 8
characters long. They are not as far as i can tell folders created by windows
updates. They are much longer names.

At first i thought virus, however i have scanned the users pc and the nas
box where the documents are redirected to and found nothing.

Clients run XPsp3 with latest updates.

Any help would be appreciated.

These are usually temporary folders created by
an application or a Windows Update during the
installation process. Most applications or updates
delete these oddly named folder during the final
phase of the installation. However some do not,
most notably a .NET Framework SP update.

They are safe to delete.

Thanks for the reply,

Thats what i originally thought, however after a little more investigation
they seem to be created whenever a user does something in office, so i was
trying to nail down whether it was office causing or if office is making
windows do something... Some users have 50-100 of these folders built up in
their documents.

IIRC it's a 2007 bug, but see the recommended newsgroup above as that's
off topic here.
