Random Missing Axis Labels - Pivot Charts

I am a reasonably experienced excel user, who has been using pivot
tables/charts in Office 2003 since, well, 2003. I analyze hundreds of
thousands of lines of data, and find the pivot table feature very powerful.

I recently switched to Office 2007. It's strange, but I'm getting used to it.

Several engineers in my office, including me, are having a show-stopping
problem with pivot charts. When we have multiple data fields in the X-axis,
the field lables disappear randomly.

Below are links to jpegs showing examples of the problem.

In the image labeled 'minimal data', all the X-axis lables are visible.

In the image 'less data', I have added (unfiltered) additional data points,
adding more information to the primary X-axis field. As you can see from the
picture, some of the 2nd level X-axis lables have dissapeared.

In the image 'all data', I have added all the available data points. As a
result, even more of the 2nd level X-axis lables have dissapeard, and even
one of the 3rd level axis lables is gone.

I have tried every option I can to get them back, including, but not limited
to: change font sizes, changing printer driver, changing interval settings,
tic marks, alignment settings, even page size. The defect even remains when
I print.

I believe this is a bug. Anyone seen it before, and have a fix?

I'm running XP Prof V2002 with SP2, and Office Pro+ 2007 12.0.4518.1014

Hi,

To the best of my knowledge there is only an SP1 for Excel 2007 (Office), so
I'm wondering what program you are working with and what version?

Yes, SP1. I had SP2 on the brain, and typed the wrong thing. Sorry.

I have found that if there are too many points that I have problems
displaying the labels at various levels. Unfortunately, I don't have your
data to test. You can try smaller font. Sometimes choosing Format Axis, Axis
Options, Specify interval unit set to 1 works better than Automatic.

Thanks Shane,

Yes, I've tried all that. I've gone to very small fonts and an interval of
1. I wish it was that easy.

Thanks anyway.

Hi,

It may be a bug. I will post it to Microsoft if you can supply me with a
copy (with dummy data), if I can't figure out what's wrong.

Thanks Shane.

I've got a support issue open with MS on it right now. (MSDN membership has
some perks).

I'll post the outcome here.
